The Cultural Memory of European Cities
Semiotic Analysis of Urban Identity in English Phraseology
Jan. 2024
The Cultural Memory of European Cities explores the complex and layered imagery of European cities through a multidisciplinary lens, examining how factors such as location, names, and nicknames contribute to each city’s cultural identity. Analyzing the geographical, philosophical, anthropological, and philological dimensions of urban spaces, the authors— philologists and philosophers— offer a view of how language and culture intersect to shape collective memory.
This work underscores the importance of an interdisciplinary approach, where cultural understanding complements linguistic competence.
